Understanding Familyhood

A Unifying Strategy for Family Success

Familyhood represents over 25 years of commitment by Oklahoma Human Services to improving the well-being and self-sufficiency of vulnerable families across the state. This research-informed, best-practice strategy engages systems, communities, and local entities to provide comprehensive support for family success under the pillars of Parenthood, Fatherhood, Motherhood, Childhood, Neighborhood, and Livelihood.

At its core, Familyhood embraces the complex nature of poverty and responds with a multilayered approach designed to improve family well-being, economic stability, and mobility. As a unifying initiative, it coordinates a broad array of resources to deliver high-quality services, apply evidence-informed practices, and build community capacity. The strategy emphasizes developing the skills and capabilities of both adults and youth through targeted education, coaching, and comprehensive care. Supported by essential training, technical assistance, and practical tools, Familyhood ensures that every family has the resources necessary to thrive.

Through strategic partnerships and innovative approaches, Familyhood not only supports individual families but strengthens communities — making Oklahoma a place where every family can succeed.
